aFe Information Intake Systems
Entry Point Performance starts at an aFe 360 degree radial flow filter that is customized for each application. aFe fine tunes diameter, taper, base shape, top shape, & neck transition until they get the optimal fit, flow, & turbulence. Wrap-Around Heat Shield Hot air destroys power; cool air makes power. Vestigial or missing heat shields can negate performance gains from improved flow. aFe wrap-around heat-shields block heat and direct cold air to the filter. They provide extra space for oversized filters and substantial air circulation. Many systems feature aluminum covers that direct extra cold air to the filter, cut intake noise, & provide a custom appearance. Flow Transition Flow gains from the filter can be wasted if the transition from filter into the tube is inefficient. aFe intakes use 3-angle adapters or velocity stacks to minimize aerodynamic loss. 3-angle adapters sequentially step up velocity from the filter into the tube. Velocity stacks integrated into the filter base provide a smooth transition into the tube with a minimum of turbulence. Flow Measurement MAF Sensor operation within factory limits is achieved through careful sensor position and tube design. Tubes are shaped to increase flow while maintaining flow velocity critical for great throttle response. Fully Developed Flow Tube obstruction (sharp bends) send out a flow restricting wake like pebbles in a stream. To recover full effective diameter, many tubes feature a transition chamber which give eddy currents a place to gather without impeding airflow. aFe also pays particular attention to straightening flow into the throttle body by employing deflector or chambers at the throttle body inlet.
